For months Donald Trump has been asking Mexico to help thwart the illegal immigration crisis that has been growing along the Southern Border. Trump stated in a tweet that he will impose a 5% tariff on all Mexican imports beginning on June 10th.

Furthermore, Trump said that if Mexico doesn’t take significant action to reduce the number of illegal aliens crossing into the U.S. illegally, the 5% tariff will increase in the future.

Donald Trump Tweets about Tariff on All Mexican Imports:

“on June 10th, the United States will impose a 5% Tarifff on all goods coming tino our Country from Mexico, until such time as illegal migrants coming through Mexico, and into our Country, STOP.

The Tarif will gradually increase until the Illegal Immigration problem is remedied.”

When Does the 5% Tariff on Mexico Begin?

June 10th, and the number will increase over time if the problem isn’t solved.

According to Fox News, the tariff % will increase to 10% on July 1st, and then 25% on September 1st if Mexico doesn’t take action.

What Does the Tariff Cover?

Fox News has stated that the tariff covers all goods by land, sea, and air from Mexico.

How Much Does the U.S. Import from Mexico

According to the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, Mexico was the 2nd largest importer of goods into the U.S. in 2018.  In fact, the United States imported over $345 billion worth of goods in 2018.  This accounts for 13.6% of overall imports into the United States.

Mexican Tariffs Due to Their Failure to Crack Down on Central American Migrant Surge

Trump, has accused the Mexican Government from not doing enough to stop the surge of Central American Migrants, crossing the Mexican Border and ultimately into the U.S. in search of asylum.

How Will the Tariff on Mexico be Implemented?

The White House has said that President Trump will use the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to implement the Tariff.

Mexican authorities raided and largely broke up the last major migrant caravan, detaining hundreds of immigrants from Central America.

“If the illegal migration crisis is alleviated through effective actions taken by Mexico, to be determined in our sole discretion and judgment, the Tariffs will be removed,” the White House said in a statement.

Trump also said :

“Tariffs will permanently remain at the 25 percent level unless and until Mexico substantially stops the illegal inflow of aliens coming through its territory,” the statement read.

We are going to do something very dramatic on the border because people are coming into our country. The Democrats will not give us laws,” he said as he headed to a commencement speech for 2019 United States Air Force Academy graduates.

MSM Fails To Recognize Illegal Immigration Crisis

On Wednesday morning, over 1000 migrants were apprehended in El Paso, Texas.  This was the largest “single group” apprehension ever recorded.

Two days prior, a group of 430 migrants crossed near the border in El Paso.

Last month, another 424 Central American migrants crossed (in a single group) near Antelope Wells.

Where are the Migrants Coming From?

From the 1036 migrants who were apprehended in the Wednesday morning group, 515 were from Guatemala, 135 from Honduras, and 76 from El Salvador.

In total, on Monday just the El Paso Sector Agents processed more than 2,200 migrants.

What Happens to the Migrants Who Were Apprehended?

The migrants will be processed, given a health screening, and a criminal background check.  Likely, due to overcrowding the migrant family units will be released into the U.S.

“This fiscal year to date the El Paso Sector has arrested over [130,000] illegal aliens, compared to over 16,000 during the same time last fiscal year,” El Paso Sector officials said in a written statement. “The numbers continue to rise and agents see no end in sight for this current situation.”
