An epic showdown is expected to occur before May.. In a rather shocking announcement, Kim Jong Un sent an invitation to Donald Trump for a face to face meeting. When you consider that no sitting president has ever met with a North Korean leader, it’s hard to fathom that these two would meet based on their turbulent history. After a year of strong language exchanged between these two charismatic leaders, the two may sit down and discuss a resolution.
What You Should Know About The Planned Trump and Kim Jong Un Meeting
Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un have traded insults back and forth for the past year. Jon Un has threatened to engage in nuclear war against the United States and with Trump responding to the isolated communist dictatorship with “fire and fury like the world has never seen.”
With such harsh rhetoric, it is very surprising to say the least, that these two would sit down to discuss a peaceful resolution.
How Did This “Potential Meeting” Come to Pass?
S. Korea’s national security advisor Chung Eui-Yong made the announcement at the White House on Thursday, March 8th. Chung had recently met with the North Korean dictator in Pyongyang. It has been suggested that Kim had sent a letter to Trump, being passed through the South Korean delegation.
What did Kim Jung Un Say?
Some of the key talking points through Chung’s announcement at the White House was that Kim is “committed to denuclearization” and that North Korea will not engage in any missile or nuclear tests.
What Was Trump’s Response to Kim Jong Un’s Invitation?
After being briefed about the invitation, Trump agreed to a face to face meeting by May. Trump said that he :
“appreciated the briefing and said he would meet Kim Jong Un by May to achieve permanent denuclearization”
Here is a one of Donald Trump’s Tweets :
Kim Jong Un talked about denuclearization with the South Korean Representatives, not just a freeze. Also, no missile testing by North Korea during this period of time. Great progress being made but sanctions will remain until an agreement is reached. Meeting being planned!

Trump made sure that it was noted that sanctions will stay in place up until this highly anticipated meeting takes place. The crippling sanctions are having their intended effects and Kim Jong Un may be ready to negotiate. Without getting hopes raised to high, the economic impact that the sanctions are having on North Korea can’t be ignored.
Where Will The Trump and Jong Un Meeting Take Place?
The meeting will be scheduled within the next two months. The time and location has yet to be determined. This was according to the White House. Stay tuned…
