Twitter to Censor Trump Tweets as well as other political figures that violates Twitter’s guidelines

Donald Trump is well known for his Tweets.  While many feel that his tweets can be inflammatory, others feel that this is the only way that Trump can speak directly to his base.

Today, in a blog post, Twitter announced that it will attach a label to a politician’s tweet if it violates their content guidelines.

Before users can view the language in newly flagged tweets, they will need to click on a screen that says, “The Twitter Rules about abusive behavior apply to this Tweet. However, Twitter has determined that it may be in the public’s interest for the Tweet to remain available.”

In addition to political figures, material that Twitter deems to be offensive can also apply to government officials with over 100,000 followers.

Will you still be able to view all of Trump’s Tweets?

This remains to bee seen.  However, what we do know is that before users can view tweets that Twitter has flagged as offensive, users will need to click on a screen that says, “The Twitter Rules about abusive behavior apply to this Tweet.  Users, will be able to still view the tweet, but they will have to opt in by clicking on the warning.

Twitter Will De-Prioritize the Labeled Tweets

What does this mean?  Whenever Twitter flags a politicians tweet as being offensive, it will no longer by as easily visible to people.  This will result in fewer views, seen by less people.  This will reduce the President’s reach before the 2020 election.

So, what will be considered offensive?

This remains to be seen.  Many conservatives have been shadowbanned from Twitter, or even banned entirely for undisclosed reasons. So, what is the criteria for “offensive?”  This has always been an issue with both Facebook as well as Twitter.  Conservatives like Michelle Malkin, and Gavin Mcinnes (along with many others) have been tossed from social media platforms already.  Nobody, knows what the guidelines are, and both of these tech giants are very vague when suspensions, shadow-banning, and outright banning takes place.

Twitter’s Algorithm Won’t Highlight Tweets That Break their Guidelines

The algorithm will flag tweets that triggers the labeling.  This will mean that fewer Twitter users will see any of Trump’s tweets that Twitter’s algorithms feels to be offensive.

Offensive Tweets will also be Censored from Live Event Pages & “Top Tweets”

“It would behoove Republican politicians to understand the rampant censorship from big tech companies has become a top tier issue among Republican voters, right next to immigration, the Second Amendment, and taxes,” said Andrew Surabian, a GOP strategist and political adviser to Donald Trump Jr.

“Just in the last week, we have Twitter saying they’re going to hide the president’s tweets, we have Reddit suspending the entire ‘The_Donald’ subreddit because of comments from random users, and we have Google executives caught on tape—which was later removed from YouTube—that their goal is to stop President Trump in 2020,” Surabian continued. “That’s all in the last week!”

With the 2020 election season kicking off with the first democrat debates, Tech Giants are stepping up their game to censor Trump and to limit his reach to his 60+ million followers.
